Secret Forest Walks
How it works.
Visit www.secretforestwalks.com to see the walks, gallery and other info.
Secret Forest Walks is about bushwalking and other recreational activities in and around Daylesford, Victoria and the Wombat Forest.
You can select a pre mapped loop walk from a˜menu of walks, according to your tastes and abilities. Walks are rated for length, terrain and degree of difficulty. They range from around 5km to 10km. Some of the walks can be combined, so if a 15, 20 or 25km (yikes!) trek is your preference, we can do it.
The very special feature with Secret Forest Walks is that you are provided with a modern hand held GPS receiver, containing the track you have selected.
The GPS unit works in tandem with a laminated map of the same track. The GPS unit enables you to know exactly where you are in relation to the track you have chosen to walk, so you’ll always know where you are and where to head, removing the risk of becoming lost.
(If former Victorian Minister Tim Holding had been on a Secret Forest Walk when he became lost, he would not have required rescuing!)
You’ll receive tuition in the use of the GPS, prior to starting the walk. This usually takes around ten minutes and it’s not complicated. If you are familiar with ‘smart’ or touch screen mobile phone, or in car GPS it’ll be a breeze.
A laminated manual is included if you need a refresher en route.
You’ll also be provided with a backpack of essentials such as bottled water, basic snacks and first aid kit.
The consultation to select your Secret Forest Walk is at Daylesfords favourite cafe, Breakfast and Beer, situated at 117 Vincent St Daylesford.
Enjoy a real coffee or other delights as we chose the right walk for you and go through the use of the GPS unit. You’ll also have the option of a range of picnic lunches supplied by the cafe. Imagine a gourmet picnic of local and organic produce, a beautiful and secluded picnic spot and the company of your choice. Perfect!
After your walk, the gear can be returned to Breakfast and Beer or at a more convenient location according to your travel plans.
Make an appointment for the a.m hours and you’ll have the rest of the daytime to walk, stop, rest look, listen, smell the forest, eat and unwind. If you’re staying over, a spa and dinner will complete a perfect day.
Yours sincerely
Brendan Murray
